This is the 5th year of this traditional Indigenous planting method on plots at Barr Farms. Stephen Bartlett gives instruction on the corn planting. The three sisters in Latin American farms are traditionally corn, beans and squash. Species and varieties vary from country and place to place, but the basic idea is the same, with the beans climbing the corn and the squash covering the soil to help retain moisture and reduce weed growth. The production is high and many of these seeds, especially the open-pollinated corn (Hickory King and Bloody Butcher) are very drought resistant. The seeds are well-adapted to the particular conditions of this land. Video by Andrew Kang Bartlett Show less
