Phillip Lim started his career with a simple mission: make clothes for people like him and his friends. "Young professionals who want the best, at prices they could actually afford," Lim says. “Early goals when we started 3.1 Phillip Lim? We didn't have goals. We just wanted to exist. We wanted to have that freedom and that liberty to make clothes that we desired, personally."
Sit down with Lim at his flagship store in Soho for a look at the inspiration behind some of his most famous collections, including the NYFW SS17 "Midnight at the Victorian Rodeo," a mash up of Victorian-era British style and 1950s American-country aesthetics. The designer shares how he keeps things fresh — the secret, he says, is to stay open to new influences, stay uncomfortable.
