Spark Camp is an online and offline gathering of forward-thinking professionals working in journalism, technology, public policy, broadband, mobile and other areas of digital media who are focused on providing better access to quality journalism, increasing opportunities to share critical information and developing new methods of sustaining newsrooms in the U.S. and abroad. We host Camps throughout the year, each time partnering with a local university or foundation in a different city. Camps occur over one weekend, where up to 80 participants gather to discuss a single topic and brainstorm new ways of solving problems or of providing access to information. The topic of each Spark Camp changes -- and as a result, so does the group of participants. Before and after Camp, the community uses virtual meeting environments and tools to share resources, collaborate and produce tangible, immediate solutions that directly solve the problems identified.
