http://evecrowellsfund.org/programs/thinkfirst-navajo/ Each year, Eve's Fund teaches thousands of young Native Americans how to prevent traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries and fatalities through its ThinkFirst Navajo program. This program offers free injury prevention presentations to schools on the Navajo Nation in Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah.
At each school, VIP speakers (Voices for Injury Prevention)--all Navajo adults with paraplegia--talk about how their own injuries occurred and how their lives have been forever changed by those traumatic events. Their personal injury stories are the most powerful way to prevent injuries and save young Navajo lives.
As part of their participation in the ThinkFirst Navajo program, the VIPs also created videos to share their personal injury stories with a wider audience. These videos were produced in a 2013 workshop led by Healthy Native Communities Partnership with funding support from Eve's Fund and New Mexico Governor's Commission on Disability.
In October 2014, this collection of personal videos was one of the featured presentations at the Southwest Conference on Disability Film Festival, held in Albuquerque, N.M.
