Embedded systems add "smart" features to products in a wide range markets: mobile devices, household appliances, automobiles, pacemakers, and smart cameras, to site just a few. They are expected to play a key role in the Internet of Things, which will allow billions of objects around the world to communicate with each other wirelessly via the Internet, powering a smart planet.

The challenge is now to put these dedicated single-purpose computers in a single chip that provides connectivity, data processing, sensitivity, power management, and signal generation.

To address this challenge CEA created the "Design & Embedded Systems" Platform around two competencies centers: CEA-Leti's integrated circuit design and test expertise, and the embedded software development of CEA-List's NanoInnov platform.

With a 3000m2 office, 280 engineers and researchers, and several M€ of CAD equipment's, the "Design & Embedded Systems" Platform has no equivalence in French research area.
Through this platform, CEA offers to industrial partners (STMicroelectronics, EADS, Schneider Electric, Delphi, and SMEs...) skills and resources to design high value specific Integrated Circuits : breakthrough architectures, strong miniaturization, ultra-low consumption, high level performances...

Integrated Circuits are developed in the Platform, from specifications to final pre-industrial tests on advanced prototypes. Around 30 patents a year are submitted so as to protect Intellectual property on their design and fabrication.
