Ten years after Katrina, the Gulf Coast has come back stronger and better, thanks to the resiliency of the people and the extraordinary contributions of national service members and volunteers who came from across the nation to help the region recover and rebuild.
Hurricane Katrina showed nature at its worst, but brought out humanity at its best. More than 40,000 AmeriCorps members and Senior Corps volunteers served 10 million hours in Katrina response.

The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) and leading experts on issues of poverty in the U.S. kicked off the 50th anniversary of AmeriCorps VISTA with the first-ever National Solutions Summit. This half-day event focused on the program’s accomplishments and featured innovative ways AmeriCorps VISTA members have and continue to fight poverty.
