I wrote and recorded this arrangement of the Secret of Monkey Island opening theme, which is one of my favorite pieces of music from one of my favorite video games. I hope you dig it!

You can listen to an audio-only version over on Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/kirk......

I still remember when I realized the Monkey Island CD-ROM would also play the game's soundtrack if I put it in my stereo. After that, I spent more time listening than I'd spent beating the game. Returning to the music all these years later, I was struck by how intricate and interesting the arrangement is - there are all these neat counter-melodies and curlicues in there underneath the main melody; some pretty hip rhythmic stuff in there, too. I tried my best to capture all of that in this arrangement.

The music sounded different on different sound cards, but this version sounds closest to the one I grew up with, so that's what I based this arrangement on: https://www.youtube.com/wat......

I recorded everything off and on over the course of a few weeks in my home studio, using Logic Pro X for editing and mixing. I made the video with the trial version of Final Cut Pro X, which I've never used before (I don't know what I'm doing lol) but it was pretty fun. I want to make more videos like this, so if you'd be into that, let me know in the comments.

The Secret of Monkey Island soundtrack was composed by Michael Land, Barney Jones, Andy Newell, and Patrick Mundy.

This arrangement featured the following instruments: Flute, pennywhistle, melodica, whistling, vocals, soprano/alto/tenor saxophones, clarinet, xylophone, handclaps, fake marimba, avocado shaker, tambourine, drum set, electric bass, acoustic & electric guitar Show less
