This video was posted Friday to the Fresno Economic Opportunities Commission Facebook page. Fresno EOC, through Board action, has adopted an official position in opposition to separating children from their families.
The resolution reads as follows:
RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE SEPARATION OF FAMILIES AT THE BORDER
WHEREAS: Fresno Economic Opportunities Commission’s (Fresno EOC) goal is to eradicate poverty in Fresno County by providing people tools and support on the path towards being self-sufficient contributing members of their community;
WHEREAS: Fresno EOC was established to advocate on behalf of the disadvantaged, with children being the most in need of protection;
WHEREAS: The Fresno EOC Board of Commissioners set Inclusion as an agency strategic goal defined as to create inclusive and safe environments within our communities; and
WHEREAS: Fresno EOC works with children to overcome the negative effects of trauma on a day to day basis.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the Fresno EOC Board of Commissioners supports all members of our community and understands Fresno EOC was created to provide a voice to disenfranchised and disadvantaged individuals and communities, and to be their voice if they are unable to be heard amongst us;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the Fresno EOC Board of Commissioners stands firmly and resolutely against policies and practices that needlessly separate children from their parents/guardians;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: Fresno EOC will continue to seek resources and create strategies to address new and continuing challenges for all people in our community.
