To all collectors, The 1906-s one peso coins are Rare, the reason why many people use to create a fake or altered date, they get coins from 1903, 1904, and 1905 they remove the number 5 from the coin and then they'll get 9 from other coins they'll reverse in order to create a # 6. So that's we call "Altered Date". How do we know if it' altered date? Let' proceed to Tip #1, this is often known by the experts.
Tips # 1, Straight Serif 1, there is a slide in the upper phase of #1, That must be straight not curved if curved, that's totally fake, Like this model coin here what do think? Genuine or Altered Date? You're right! it's Fake or Altered date, because as you can see immediately that number 1 is absolutely curved serif, so you already have an idea what fake and genuine is.
The problem is, there is a straight serif from 1905 coin, there is a two-coin, curved and straight serif. The straight serif was made at the last quarter of that year and that results to both 1905 coins. What if the straight serif 1905 was used? let's go-to tip #2.
Tip # 2 Pictures or Images, As you can see, we have two models; Model #1 and Model #2, In model #1 the numbers 1 9 0 has the same color while the no. 6 is a bit different, it is dark and gloomy.
So if you see an online auction like eBay or any social media auction you'll already have an idea by just looking in the pictures and knowing the difference between genuine and fake (altered date). And that's our tip #2.
But the problem is, what if straight serif 1905 was used? They imitate the color? They toned the clour in order to achieve the same hue. So does that mean 1906 is already genuine?
Let's all go to tip#3.
Tip # 3, Weight, The exact weight of 1906-s US-Philippine coin is 29.95 grams if the weight is a bit far, well this is the time for the second thoughts.
But what if 1905 straight serif was used and the 4 digits have the same color in person or whether in an image? and also the weight 29.95 grams, almost exact weights, so does that mean it is Genuine? In order to have that exact weight, you can eliminate the silver metal, Just like the #1 it is straight serif, if not it curves you can always add silver. In #9 it must be a Round Knob by removing or adding silver metal. In the 0 digits, in the upper part, it must be straight, not oval. In the no. 6, The so-called "Teardrop", you can obliterate it too. All of it, you can remove and add silver metal.
The letter S on the left side, it must be inclined a bit. the denticles are counted, it must be seven denticles all goes down to number 1.
If all of this were done almost successfully by the one who makes the altered date coin, so how do we know? Let's move now to Tip#4. This tip#4 one of the most significant and effective way in order to know the altered date coin., in this tip, you'll never get away with this. In this tip surely you will be caught that you're selling altered date coin.
Tip # 4, Coin or Jewelry Cleaner.
You might be thinking, why jewelry or coin Cleaner? All you have to do is just dip the 1906 coin into a liquid cleaner, for about 10 to 5 seconds maximum, then rinse it with water, it would be much better if you used running water. After the procedure, you can clearly see, the no. 6, it shows some sparkles, heating marks, some welding sparks mark, or sometimes the rainbow at the side of #6, even the other digits of 1906 coin its shows the welding marks. That is the most effective way.
