Through outdoor, environmental and nutrition education, we help young people develop the confidence, skills and experience necessary to live a healthy life and become leaders in their communities. CommunityGrows works with youth through three interconnected programs: Environmental and Garden Education; Seed to Mouth Cooking and nutrition classes; and the BEETS program, a paid internship for teens, which provides 15-19 years olds with job readiness training.

We believe that children learn best when they leave the classroom and enter the garden. By digging in the dirt, they learn about the nutrients and microorganisms that make up healthy soil and discover the root systems of their favorite vegetables. By tasting fresh-dug carrots, they wonder at a plant’s ability to transform sunlight into sugar through photosynthesis. And by playing and exploring together, they build essential skills like peer-leadership and problem-solving that will serve them throughout their lives.
