  • FUNDABAC® Candle Filter Process

    The Fundabac® candle filter housing is a vertical, cylindrical pressure vessel, equipped with a bolted-on lid at the top for mounting the filter elements, and a conical bottom portion for the discharge of solids. Because of this simple construction and no moving parts, it is possible to apply various kinds of materials of construction for the vessels and to take advantage of process-oriented claddings or linings.
    During filtration, the liquid passes from the outside through the filter media into the six concentric perforated tubes and flows down into the bottom of the candle where the filtrate is deflected into the center tube, flowing up into the horizontal register and out through the filtrate outlet.
    For discharging the cake, the pressurized gas flow is reversed and blows up the filter media around the tubular element. This sudden dynamic expansion of the media makes the cake break, drop into the cone of the filter vessel and out through the discharge valve.

The unique cloverleaf shaped candle element design is at the heart of the FUNDABAC® filter system.     The CONTIBAC® is a slightly modified FUNDABAC® candle filter used as a continuous thickener, producing concentrated slurries. Clear filtrate at a high flow-rate is achieved. Solids are flushed back into the liquid and the thickened slurry is drawn off intermittently or continuously without interrupting filtration. This solid-liquid separation process mainly applies to processes where continuous flow is required.

    The FUNDAMIX® is a universal device for mixing liquids in open or closed vessels, under vacuum or pressure, even in sterile conditions.
    The electro-magnetic drive operates at 50 to 60 Hz and transmits the vibration via the mixing device or mixing plate attached to a special clamp coupling into the medium.
    The amplitude resp. mixing effect is controlled by an electronic system and can be adjusted from 0 to 4 mm. The flow direction can be adapted to suit the medium and required mixing effect. The mixing direction depends on the orientation of the conical holes.
    Standard mixers are in 316 stainless steel, but can be manufactured from a wide range of materials including Hastelloy, Titanium and various plastics.
    FUNDAMIX® can operate continuously without overheating or amplitude variations.

    Our pilot filters are fully equipped, self-standing units with automated valves and control system. A gas-driven diaphragm pump can be included in the rental unit. The filtrate flow rate must be monitored with a scale or a calibrated drum. In addition, filter cake thickness must be measured and cake samples taken for subsequent moisture assay. Our pilot filters are designed for maximum 50 mm thick cakes. There are two modes of operation possible with our pilot filters. They can be operated as a dry cake FUNDABAC® filter or as a thickened slurry discharge CONTIBAC® filter.
