My first live jam, based on an idea I wrote in Propellerheads Figure app. The workflow for getting ideas out of that and into my synths is a bit tedious, but for a debut try, it went pretty alright.
I used the following instruments in this recording:
- Electron Octatrack (drums and sequencing)
- MFB Dominion X (bass)
- Nord Electro 5D (phased strings)
- Korg Miniloge (stabs)
The synths are sequenced via MIDI from the Octatrack and routed through the Octatrack's audio inputs to apply additional effects and control. Everything is recorded through a MOTU 828x into Ableton Live, and the recorded audio is taken directly into iMovie, without any additional post-production.
My idea with this is to create an album of tracks, which are all going to be written and produced under the same dogma: Four tracks of drum sounds, three tracks of synths and one master track for overall control if needed.
I'm not sure about the genre, but to be honest, I don't care too much about that either. It's a straightforward four-to-the-floor beat, so whether you want to call it techno or house or whatever - anything is fine with me... I call it electrogroovetechnopop.
