DLR Institute of Space Propulsion

Sustainable, intelligent and powerful - this is how we imagine the space flight of tomorrow. "We" are around 250 employees at the Institute of Space Propulsion of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) at the Lampoldshausen site. For over 60 years, we have been researching, developing and testing advanced technologies for chemical space propulsion on a test facility infrastructure that is unique in Europe. In doing so, we have positioned our competences broadly: from research and development of "green" propellants, ignition systems, combustion chambers and turbopumps, to the testing of engine components, small engines but also main and upper stage engines of launch vehicles. This has made us an important partner for European space flight.
We have been using hydrogen in the space sector for over 40 years. Now we are transferring the know-how we have gained to the energy and mobility sectors.
