I flew to Toronto in January of this year to paint Dr. Jordan Peterson's portrait. I'm a Canadian artist living in Scotland who has been exploring art and technology collaboration and augmented reality paintings. My partner and I spent a few days at the Peterson's beginning the painting and filming, with the video to later become elements of the digital content for the artwork.
- in reply to requests, yes, I am offering artist signed prints of this painting as well as with a number of my other works at my website. You can view them here http://bit.ly/2dUScMv
Viewers simply scan the painting with the free app CreativMuse to engage the video and URL links. Additionally, Dr. Peterson was kind enough to give me a number of personal items including a crucifix, a book titled There’s No Such Thing As A Dragon and an indigenous carving to collage into the work. I embedded Near Field Communication tags (NFC) beside each object and viewers can hover their smartphone next to the tag to trigger video clips of Dr. Peterson speaking about each thing. These seven short clips can be found here on my YouTube channel.
Apologies for the variation in quality due to the different cameras we used to film. My resources were limited (the life of the artist) and I could only acquire an old Canon DSLR, an even older camcorder and my Samsung S7. I did my best to colour grade and smooth transitions etc. but I didn't have the best quality video to work with. Live and learn!
I hope you enjoy it and if you're interested in finding out more about this painting or my augmented reality 'tech-fuelled' art you can visit my website at http://www.trevorjonesart.com
