Abandoned as newborns in China, adopted by American parents, Jennie and Maya return as teens to where their lives began. Girls who grew up in these rural towns teach the Americans about their lives as rural Chinese daughters. These videos – some of which appear as storytelling elements in our transmedia project, "Touching Home in China" (http://touchinghomeinchina.com) – bring to life key moments of the girls' cross-cultural encounters. They provide glimpses of what the Americans discovered about girlhood experiences they might have had if their birth families did not abandon them as infants due to China's one-child policy. Other videos, shot in Beijing, tell stories about young women's rights activists.
