  • Tinnitus Truths with Dr. Julie Play all

Tinnitus is a conscious awareness of a sound in the ears or head that is not caused by an external noise. While it is a symptom associated with many forms of hearing loss, it can also be a symptom of other health problems. Over half of people with tinnitus do not have measurable hearing loss. The American Tinnitus Association estimates that 50 million Americans experience tinnitus to some degree. Of these, about 16 million have severe enough tinnitus to seek medical attention, and about two million people are so seriously debilitated that they are unable to function on a “normal”, day-to-day basis.

The purpose behind these videos is to eradicate the misconception that nothing can be done about tinnitus. We have patients travel across the United States and beyond to get help for this condition. Why do they travel so far? Unfortunately, many medical practices - including many otolaryngologists - do not know about the proven tinnitus treatment options that are available. Of course, they also travel so far because we believe that Dr. Julie and her team of professionals offer unparalleled expertise and care.

If you would like to learn more, please give us a call at (720) 259-9962 or visit our website at www.youreardoc.com.

You do not have to “just live” with your tinnitus anymore!

So how can we offer hope when so many people – including many doctors – say there is no effective treatment for tinnitus?

    1. Dr. Julie Prutsman has been involved with tinnitus cases for the past 15 years – before there was anything that could be done except hearing aids or maskers. Thankfully, Dr. Pawel Jastreboff, PhD, ScD, developed Tinnitus Retraining Therapy or TRT. Julie had the privilege of studying under Dr. Jastreboff at Emory University in 2002, and she is a founding member of the Tinnitus Retraining Therapy Association.

    2. Our specialty is working with people to find relief from their tinnitus. Nearly every ENT, audiology practice, and hearing aid dispenser that claims to be able to do something about tinnitus only offers hearing aids. While amplification may help some people, only 50% of people living with tinnitus have significant hearing loss that affects speech understanding. We now offer 9 evidence based tinnitus treatment options and have seen life changing results with our patients.

    3. Technology alone does not ensure a successful outcome for every person. There are thousands of hearing healthcare providers across the nation and around the world that have access to the same products and advancements in tinnitus treatment that we do. However, without extensive training, a deep commitment to counseling and educating patients, and years of experience working with people living with tinnitus, the best tinnitus treatment technology is worthless. Our practice possesses all of the ingredients to maximize each patient’s benefit from the products and services we provide.

That is why we have been able to help thousands of people from across the country get the relief they need from their tinnitus.
