The UCI School of Humanities is the heart of the university and where connections between disciplines are made. Our year-long Humanities Core course enrolls over 1000 students a year, 70% of whom are majoring outside of the humanities. Our current and emeriti faculty include trailblazers in critical theory, world history, literary journalism and more. A few key accomplishments from current humanities faculty include: Vicki Ruiz, distinguished professor of history and chair of Chicano/Latino studies, was the first UCI faculty member to receive the National Humanities Medal from President Obama; David Igler, chair of the Department of History, pioneered the study of Pacific world history; and Ngugi wa Thiong’o, Distinguished Professor of comparative literature, is consistently shortlisted for the Nobel Prize in literature. Our alumni include Pulitzer Prize-winning authors, business leaders, screenwriters, political officers, and more. Learn more here: www.humanities.uci.edu
