The Dwarf in China

Dutch street performer, Jeanmarie Bevort, always dreamt of performing his fairytale – about a dwarf that finds a golden egg – all over the world, for he believes that fairytales worldwide contain a universal wisdom: they form a direct connection with our mythological roots and remind us to live our lives with gratitude and respect. But as so often happens Jeanmarie got caught up by life. The birth of his son Tim made him postpone his dream and stay in the Netherlands.

But life always seems to have a greater plan. Twenty five years later his son Tim emigrates to China. In the documentary we follow Jeanmarie as he gets invited to China by his son’s roommate, Frank. His old dream is awakened as Frank enthusiastically persuades him to travel to the remote villages of Yunnan to perform his fairytale. In search for meaningful connections they try to add Chinese mythological elements to their European fairytale, making a lasting impression on the communities they visit.
