Mary Wells was one of the forerunners of the 'Motown sound'. 'You Beat Me to The Punch' was released in 1962; it peaked at #9 on the US pop charts and became her first number one on the Billboard R&B singles chart. It also earned Wells a 'Best Rhythm and Blues Recording Grammy nomination.
'The One Who Really Loves You' reached #8 on the US charts and #2 on the R&B charts in 1962.
