    Slavery is all around us. It has been linked to the supply chains of many everyday products. Everything from shoes to cell phones, chocolate bars to cotton shirts, have been linked to slave labour. Many beloved consumer brands share the dark secret of slave labour, often deep in their supply chains.

    It is believed around 5.5 million are in child slavery. Children in slavery are usually surrounded by violence, abuse and threats. They work long hours doing hazardous, tiring work for little or no pay, and can be far from their homes and family.

    Child slavery can take many forms – forced labour, domestic servitude or debt bondage. Children are also trafficked, forced into marriage and armed conflict, exploited for the profit of others.

  • Domestic Slavery Play all

    According to the International Labour Organisation (ILO) there are at least 53 million domestic workers worldwide, not including child domestic workers. Domestic workers are especially vulnerable to conditions of modern slavery.

    Domestic servitude might mean being coerced into working without rest and prevented from leaving the house. They may have their pay withheld, be abused, treated as a commodity and controlled by their employer.
