• Trans Oral History Project: Miss Major on Role Models

    1,287 views 2 years ago
In the aftermath of Leelah Alcorn's tragic suicide, Trans Oral History Project recognizes that valuing trans lives includes making the narratives of trans experiences visible. We recognize the power of trans role models for our youth, as well as for our elders. We celebrate the many life stages of our trans identity. From our youth through our old age, we seek models of our identity while we also serve as those models. All trans lives have value.

Today we share reflections on #RealLiveTransAdult role models including @Janet Mock and @Laverne Cox from #RealLiveTransAdult role model and elder Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, trans woman activist and community leader for transgender rights, with dedication to women of color. She serves as the Executive Director for the Transgender GenderVariant Intersex Justice Project, which aims to assist transgender persons who are considered to be disproportionately incarcerated under a prison-industrial complex. Griffin-Gracy has participated in activism for a wide range of causes throughout her lifetime, including the 1969 Stonewall riots in New York City and the Attica Prison riot in 1971.

Please celebrate her life with us, and share her story with your community. Show less
