MOONBOW is an international septet playing freedom music full of pure energy, levitating improvisations, ecstatic grooves, and unforgettable themes. The band consists of seven accomplished, internationally recognized improvisers. It was founded in early 2015 in Copenhagen, Denmark, where their paths suddenly crossed. The music for MOONBOW was composed by the bass player Tomo Jacobson, but the imperative of working with the band was to give the band members freedom to shape the material their own way, fully engaging their unique, strong, and diverse creative intuitions. This way MOONBOW's music always stays alive and forever keeps surprising audiences around the planet earth.
IL SOGNO is about storytelling, freedom and intuition. The band uses melodic, minimal compositions as a motor for elevated, focused improvisations. With its lyrical uniqueness IL SOGNO's music balances on the boarders of genres. It lays somewhere between jazz, cinematic, free improv, minimal, chamber, and ECM-like, but its highly individual sound stands firmly on its own, and never really makes you doubt that it is anything else than it is.
The band features three internationally recognized improvisers: Italian pianist Emanuele Maniscalco, Danish drummer Oliver Laumann, and Polish bassist Tomo Jacobson. The musicians met in 2013 in Copenhagen where they are based and where they are all deeply involved with the Danish improvised scene. From the first time they played together it was evident that they share a very strong connection. From the first concerts they played together it was obvious they have the power to enchant the audiences with their sound and to keep them electrified throughout their unpredictable performances.
IL SOGNO WILL RELEASE A RECORD IN SPRING OF 2017. STAY TUNED!
TOMO SOLO is a double bass free improvisation. This project is about the connections between physicality, spirituality, and intuition. Physicality of playing the double bass, of being a part of the instrument, of creating music through the physical efforts. Spirituality with an intention to be expressed with every sound made. Intuition, trust and letting go to the fountain of music pouring out through self.
This project is a meditation on the current. It is an effort to make the best out of the now in a specific context of the state in which the musician currently finds himself, the room and the environment he plays in, and the audience with their energy, passions and hopes. The musician, the environment, and the audience through tangled interconnectivity, create in result a beautiful interdependence.
TOMO SOLO is dedicated to the past and the future.
FREE SPIRITUAL is a spiritual free jazz trio. Its aim is to rediscover and to give a new life to the Medieval Gregorian requiem mass. It is a reinterpretation of the classic plainchant mass written as a celebration of the dead, into a context of free improv saxophone, double bass, and drums trio. The trio keeps and elevates the roughness and purity of the Gregorian chant and focuses on their personal expression of what the two mean to them and how they see the initial energy of this music.
The music was arranged by the bass player Tomo Jacobson who has studied Gregorian chant both theoretically and practically for years. The process was to translate and deconstruct the original Medieval requiem, and put it back together a new, but keeping the feel and forms of the original, as well as its original purpose.
FREE SPIRITUAL plays their music with the intention, as an universal, secular mass dedicated to all killed during armed conflicts.
FREE SPIRITUAL is: Maciek Kadziela (PL) - sax Tomo Jacobson - double bass Anders Vestergaard (DK) - drums
