The Lucky Few Heather Avis

Hi, we are the Avis family, Josh (dad), Heather (mom), Macyn, Truly and August. We are a family made up of adoption and Down syndrome and for that we feel really lucky. We call ourselves, “The Lucky Few” because we are lucky enough to have two kids with Down syndrome and there are very few people who have a loved one with Down syndrome.

Join us here as we explore what it means to be part of The Lucky Few and in so doing create a more inclusive world for all.

When I coined the phrase, “The Lucky Few” it simply meant few of us have a loved one with Down syndrome and those of us who do are very lucky. Over the years as social media has grown the phrase, “The Lucky Few” has become synonymous with “Down syndrome” as people all over the world who have a loved one with Down syndrome recognize just how lucky they are.
