Routt County Humane Society

Our Story:
Our community animal shelter was formerly used primarily as a holding facility for our local animal control services and was run by the City of Steamboat Springs. After many years of increasing involvement and support, the nonprofit Routt County Humane Society (RCHS) took over the municipal facility in May 2015 in order to create a full-scale animal shelter with adoption services and community programs. RCHS was established in 1985 and is a 501(c)(3) organization that relies heavily on financial and in-kind donations from our community in order to fully meet the needs of the animals in our care. 

The RCHS Mission:
The Routt County Humane Society is a nonprofit organization dedicated to animal welfare, the prevention of cruelty to animals, providing humane education, promoting spaying and neutering, and encouraging respect for the dignity and worth of all animals.
