The Decameron 2020

A collaboration of international artists - writers, actors, designers - sharing a vision of our world inspired by Boccaccio’s timeless classic.

It is 1348, and the Black Death is sweeping across Europe. In Florence, ten young friends flee the city and shelter in a country house. To entertain themselves, they gather every night and tell each other stories. That is the framework for one of the most popular and influential literary texts ever written: Giovanni Boccaccio’s "The Decameron".

It is 2020, and a new pandemic is sweeping the globe. Author Erri De Luca, producer Paola Porrini Bisson, director Michael Mayer, and creative director Richard Petit invited friends from all over the world, authors, poets, screenwriters, journalists, actors, and visual artists to join in a unique storytelling project for our trying times. A collaboration of diverse voices and ideas sharing a compassionate vision of our collective human experience.
