Jhamtse Gatsal

Jhamtse Gatsal Children’s Community was founded by former Buddhist monk Lobsang Phuntsok, who returned to his homeland with a vision to transform the lives of children in need. What began in 2006 with 35 children is now a loving home to more than 125 orphaned, abandoned, and at-risk children.

Located in the Himalayan foothills of Arunachal Pradesh, India, Jhamtse Gatsal—meaning "Garden of Love and Compassion"—provides care, education, and mentorship to children from toddlerhood to young adulthood. Most belong to the Monpa tribe and come from backgrounds of poverty, trauma, and adversity.

Our mission is to break the cycle of suffering and create generational change by helping children grow into compassionate, educated, and resilient leaders. We aim to be a model community for the world.
