Jenga Jirani Charity

When the Covid-19 pandemic struck and Kenya went into lockdown, the work of the Jonathan Jackson Foundation (JJF) came to a halt. Yet, the needs of the communities that it served only grew more dire. Majority of urban informal settlement dwellers work in the 'Jua Kali' sector, living from day to day: staying at home meant that many families could not meet their basic needs. To help restore the wellbeing of the communities, JJF collaborated with strategic partners to support families within Nairobi and the JENGA JIRANI CHARITY was born.

‘Jenga Jirani’ is a Kiswahili phrase translating to ‘help your neighbour.’ Through a robust mapping system of individuals in greatest need and a large team of community volunteers, Jenga Jirani focussed on distributing food hampers, hygiene stations and sanitary kits directly to them.

Today, Jenga Jirani Charity is a non-profit humanitarian crisis response organisation.
