Elephant Rouge / Red Elephant is an art installation in public urban space designed by Bibi and has been presented during Lumieres Shanghai 2017 in partnership with the Fête des Lumières in Lyon. Visitors to the Festival of Lights will immediately recognize the components of this giant totem: indeed, the light object is composed of 592 recycled polyethylene containers.
5 meters high, the thermoplastic Babar is a new visual hallucination. Yesterday, the world dreamed of pink elephants, nowadays they are red. Its green eyes invite the audience to come and visit it in its new habitat: the big zoo otherwise known as the city.
Loyal to the concept that BIBI has developed since 1991, Red Elephant illustrates this blend of everyday plastic objects and light. Appropriation and modern urban myth, Red Elephant is a new addition to the luminous and contemporary bestiary to which the Fish Fountain ( and the Dragon King ( already belong.

Since 1991, by using daily life objects made of plastic, Bibi's artworks have explored our relationship to our environment, as well as our capacity to face up to our contradictions with regard to the waste we produce. To give plastic the place it deserves -- the sixth element -- Bibi has fought especially hard against two universally distributed icons: the polyethylene container and the traffic cone. Today our planet is threatened on all sides by many contaminations, in particular invasion by plastic waste. His artworks discuss this with derision and make ironic responses.
