We are way out here in the South Carolina Lowcountry on a deserted island in South Carolina, well I should say the drone is. It's almost 1 mile out and can only be reached by boat. The mission was to save the Sea Turtles but today our mission is to fly over it! Now abandoned this former research center was used by USC to study the life cycles of endangered Sea Turtles.
The weather was a little overcast with rain but we decided to make it a mission and check it out. One of the former students at the USC Ecological Research Center on Pritchard Island, SC sent us this message saying...
"We spent many summers on this island helping the turtles. This house (the barrier island research center) was deep in the woods when built. It was a great place to stay too. The island took the first "research house" via erosion and they built this one, which has succumbed to barrier island erosion as well. The house further down the beach is the "round house" one of 2 original which were spec houses built for vacationers and were quickly washed away. I hope someone is still helping the turtles even though they no longer do it for volunteers to help."
