The Flute Geezer

Welcome to The Flute Geezer

A corner of YouTube devoted to flute playing, wrong notes, misplaced confidence and the extraordinary ability of grown adults to spend thousands on a beautiful instrument and then blame it for everything.

I’m Jean-Paul Wright, otherwise known as The Flute Geezer. I write about the bits of being a flute player that don’t usually make it into the tutor books. The note that worked perfectly at home. The low C requiring divine intervention. The panic when somebody says “from the top”. And the piccolo, which remains one of mankind’s more questionable decisions.

Home of 'Dear Flutist, Flautist and Flute Player', 'The Wednesday Shorty', and my book 'Dear Flute Player, What Exactly Are We Doing?'

No scales. No fingering charts. No personal development.

If you’ve ever stared accusingly at your flute after producing a noise that was quite clearly your own fault, you’ll fit in nicely.

Welcome aboard.

Please keep your piccolo under control.
