"It is a dark time for gamerkind. Greedy corporations rule the digital landscape, growing bolder and more brazen even as they completely forget why they exist in the first place. This is the story of one gamer who's had enough!"
This is a comedy sketch we came up with to mock the manipulative and greedy practices of certain large video game corporations. Here, we specifically took aim at Activision selling a red dot targeting reticle for a $1 microtransaction. However, there are several other key problems we wanted to highlight, including:
- the increasingly brazen inclusion of predatory and pay-to-win microtransactions in full-price games - predatory microtransactions in general - triple-A titles being rushed out the door and released in an incredibly broken state - the gaming media's characterization of dissatisfied or critical consumers as "entitled" - the general lack of respect that many large game companies have shown toward their customer base
Unless something changes, these trends will continue to get worse. We hope you enjoy the sketch, and please leave your feedback in the comments!
