Shibumi Jamaica

Hi friends!

My name is Khalia. Jamaican born & raised. Cooking up delicious recipes, that just so happen to be plant-based.

A few years ago, after graduating with a masters in Mechanical Engineering, I packed my bags for Italy to explore something I have always wanted to do, cooking. I then returned home and started a food business, SHIBUMI, to help Jamaicans simply open up to eating more plant-based.

SHIBUMI is a Japanese word that means simple, unobtrusive beauty. I fell in love it a few years ago when a friend mentioned it to me, and couldn't help but connect it to ~ the humble vegetable ~ Mama Earth ~ our bodies and minds. Things we so often neglect, but that encompass this implicit beauty, imperfection and naturalness.

For now, I hope this channel will inspire and help you out in the kitchen (and as things unfold, in many other ways :)
