Shirley Thompson is an Emmy award winning documentary editor, writer, producer and story consultant best known for the PBS documentaries she has edited, most recently:  DEAR ALOHA (2024), PROMESA (2024), THE ‘ILIMA LADY (2023), BASEBALL BEHIND BARBED WIRE (2023), EMBERS OF AWAKENING (2022), and Finding KUKAN, (2016). Shirley co-produced & co-directed the REEL WĀHINE OF HAWAI‘I film series, short portraits showcasing the creative journeys of Hawai‘i women filmmakers, with Hawai‘i Women in Filmmaking. She is a proud member of the New Day Films collective since 1993. As a Latina and a daughter of immigrants, she is committed to filmmaking that builds bridges across cultures and communities.
