The Yorkshire Dialect Society - founded in 1897.

The YDS is Britain's oldest surviving dialect Society. For over 125 years we have studied, recorded, and researched the many flavours of dialect and accent across and beyond Yorkshire. We are responsible for hundreds of items of research, and thousands of items of recorded speech and language that defines the county and its inhabitants, their lives, loves, humour and interactions with each other and with off cummed 'uns*
In the 21st century we are able to capture the last of heritage dialect - words that enrich the language, accents that define and enhance the place of your upbringing.
