Wednesday Night Prayer Orchestra

Founded by composer and saxophonist Ludwig Bekic, the sixteen-member Wednesday Night Prayer Orchestra has evolved from a weekly workshop at Vienna's Little Stage into a mature, fully-fledged Ensemble. Originally rooted in the music of Charles Mingus, Duke Ellington and Carla Bley, this Collective now focuses on original compositions by their members Lukas Aichinger, Ludwig Bekic, Helene Glüxam, and Áki Wellsandt.

More than sixty concerts later the Orchestra remains dedicated to a complex, sometimes satirical dialogue with jazz, featuring multi-layered improvisations and intimate solo cadenzas.

Following a debut album recording at the ORF RadioKulturhaus, the "most working jazz orchestra in town" will take over as the stageband at Vienna's Jazzclub Porgy & Bess for ten months starting September 2026.
