Vidal-Gadea C. elegans Lab

This is the home of the Vidal Gadea lab, a molecular neuroethology group at Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois. We study how animals sense and respond to the physical world and how those same mechanisms fail in disease. Our primary model is the nematode C. elegans, complemented by human muscle cell cultures, and crustacean preparations.

On this channel you will find worm behavior, fluorescent imaging, and calcium recordings from projects on magnetic field detection and orientation, Duchenne muscular dystrophy and muscle mechanosensation, and neural dynamics. Many videos are designed and recorded by our students and show the real assays and tools we use in the lab. Our team includes graduate, undergraduate, and high school researchers who learn to ask their own questions, build experiments, and share what they discover.
