UT Knoxville Trombone Studio

The UT Trombone Studio rehearses, performs, and practices in the ample spaces of the beautiful and newly-built Natalie L. Haslam Music Center on the UTK campus. Studio members participate in the University of Tennessee Symphony Orchestra, the Concert and Jazz Band programs, and the nationally renowned Pride of the Southland Marching Band. 

The studio is directed by Dr. Alex van Duuren, Assistant Professor of Trombone at UTK. Dr. van Duuren is a frequent soloist appearing each year at universities across the US, a member of the Quintasonic Brass Quintet, and performs regularly with the Knoxville Symphony. Dr. van Duuren completed his DMA at the University of Arizona, master's degrees in performance and chamber music at the University of Michigan, and a B.M. in Performance at the University of Florida. Pedagogically, the focus for our studio is an applied diversity in skills (orchestral, commercial, jazz, teaching, etc) and the ability to begin a career in music after graduation.
