Umingmaq Paddle Touring Center

While living among the Inuit of Hudson Bay I was given the nickname "Umingmaq" by the grandson of the man who played "Nanook" in the famous silent film "Nanook of the North." Umingmaq literally means, "The Bearded One" & is the Inuktitut word for Muskox. Adamie Inukpuk, & everyone in the village for that matter, thought it was absolutely hilarious to call a skinny kabloonak (white guy) a Muskox. After living in Inukjuak for a year; I completed my first Arctic kayak expedition. My paddle shop now bears the name Umingmaq Paddle Touring Center.

My family has now grown to include my wife & our young twin calves. We explore the world together as a herd by canoe & kayak. The wilderness paddling adventures of my Big Furry Muskoxen family will be shared through our channel here. Please join us on our adventures. From the Wisconsin River in our back yard all the way to the Arctic Ocean; watch us seek to nourish our souls at the boundary between water, wilderness & sky.
