The official YouTube channel of Tim Foley — author of ‘Crean: The Extraordinary Life of an Irish Hero’ (Merrion Press, 2023) and co-author of the Dictionary of Irish Biography entry for Tom Crean.

Described by the Royal Society as ‘a foremost authority on the life and career of Tom Crean,' Foley's research led to the official revision of the Dictionary of Irish Biography on 17th March 2021.

The channel is dedicated to telling Crean’s true story — correcting inaccuracies that have circulated for over 20 years and documenting the 6 and a half years of his Naval career that had never before been recorded.

Crean (born on or before 16 February 1877, Annascaul, County Kerry) was one of the greatest Antarctic explorers of the Heroic Age of Exploration. He served on three expeditions — Discovery (1901–04), Terra Nova (1910–13), and Endurance (1914-16) — and spent more days in Antarctica than either Shackleton or Scott.
