THIS SHOULDN’T EXIST.

Welcome to This Shouldn’t Exist 🌍

Earth is full of places, creatures and natural phenomena that seem completely impossible.

Why does a desert exist where it shouldn’t?
Why do animals survive in places that seem uninhabitable?
Why are some lakes, forests, mountains and ecosystems so strangely different?

This Shouldn’t Exist explores the most unusual places and phenomena on Earth—and uncovers the science, geography, evolution and hidden history that explains why they exist.

From bizarre landscapes and isolated islands to strange wildlife, extreme environments and unexplained natural wonders, every episode begins with one question:

How is this even possible?
