The Thing Behind The Thing

We use hundreds of things every single day — and almost never ask where they came from.

TheThingBehindTheThing digs into the surprising, often bizarre origin stories of the everyday objects, customs, and habits we take for granted. Every video uncovers the "thing behind the thing" — the forgotten history, the strange coincidence, or the unexpected person behind something you've used a thousand times without a second thought.

If you're curious about the world hiding in plain sight, you're in the right place.

New videos exploring everyday history, uploaded regularly.
