Samantha | The Mature Runner

At 46, I'm using data-driven training to rebuild my speed and distance after severe illness.  👋 Welcome to The Mature Runner where I'm tracking my running comeback from a 5K training plan all the way to marathon training. In 2021, my lungs tried to kill me (those jerks). They didn't succeed, and now I'm redefining my second act. 

Pre-illness, I was a Data Product Manager and certified data nerd. I want to know (read: NEED to know) the WHY behind my training results — zone 2 running, recovery, speed work, all of it. My fitness is the product and this channel tracks its lifecycle: from 5K to marathon goals, strength training, recovery, race days, setbacks, and data. 🤓 Lots and lots of data.

In 2024, I became a certified personal trainer to better understand my body and rebuild intelligently. I'm also completing a running coach certification. If you don't like data, sarcastic gingers, or watching someone learn by making loads of mistakes, you're in the wrong place 😜
