The James & Derek Hotsinpiller Foundation 

Today’s Hotsinpiller Foundation began as a scholarship fund to memorialize Jim and Derek Hotsinpiller. The scholarship was established by Jim and Derek’s family to honor Jim, who passed suddenly while serving at the Bridgeport Police Department, and to pay tribute to Derek, who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving with the U.S. Marshal’s Service. Multiple funding sources have been utilized through the years, but the primary source of revenue has been the annual Derek Hotsinpiller Fallen Stars 5K. In 2022 the foundation started moving toward the idea of expanding its mission beyond just scholarships and in 2023 The James and Derek Hotsinpiller Memorial Foundation was officially launched. The Hotsinpiller Foundation’s new mission (in addition to scholarships) is to provide assistance, support, and even equipment to law enforcement agencies and officers, their families, including K9 officers.
