The Holler Tales

Hi, I’m Kristi, and this channel is deeply personal.

Welcome to The Holler Tales — where the mountains keep their secrets, but every holler has a story.

We uncover the true stories, forgotten legends, outlaws, moonshiners, lawmen, family feuds, mountain mysteries, and larger-than-life characters of Appalachia. From high-speed whiskey runs on twisting mountain roads to people nearly lost to history, these are the stories that helped shape the Appalachian South.

Some became legends. Some became criminals. Some were simply trying to survive.

Here you’ll find documentary-style stories from Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky and beyond — drawn from historical records, newspapers, family accounts, and Appalachian folklore.

If you love moonshine history, Southern outlaws, old mountain communities, true crime, and forgotten American history, you’re in the right holler.

Come sit a spell.
