The Callimachus Project

Since January 2025, the U.S. federal government has lost more than 300,000 employees—an unprecedented erosion of institutional procedures, knowledge, and technical expertise. Decades of hard-won insight into how government functions, solves problems, manages crises, and serves citizens are disappearing at alarming speed. We are creating The Callimachus Project to preserve that knowledge before it is lost forever. The project identifies and interviews former civil servants across agencies to capture their knowledge of how the agencies worked, as well as their experience, lessons learned, operational wisdom, and recommendations for rebuilding the roles they used to fill. Using advanced AI tools, these interviews will be transformed into organized, searchable summaries that can support the development of a new generation of intelligent public-sector support systems and train the people who power them.
