THE QUIET GROUND

The ground under your feet is not still. It is only quiet.

THE QUIET GROUND makes cinematic documentaries about the forces that
reshape the places people live — earthquakes and active fault lines,
volcanoes and lahars, tsunamis, landslides, floods, hurricanes, and the
dams, levees, aqueducts and ageing infrastructure that stand between a
city and the water above it.

Every episode is built on published science and the historical record:
USGS and NOAA data, seismic and geological surveys, hazard maps,
eyewitness accounts, and archival photography. We name real places and
real numbers. We explain the mechanism — plate tectonics, subduction,
liquefaction, pyroclastic flow, storm surge, structural failure — and we
follow the chain of decisions and warnings that turned a natural event
into a disaster.

The ground remembers. It is simply slower than we are.
