St Lucia Arts and Culture Collective

Our mission is to showcase the fine and traditional arts and crafts of the island of St Lucia. SL has a rich tradition of arts and crafts, with many artists still working today. On the island you’ll find artists working in clay and pottery, wood carving, furniture making, wood sculpture, painting on canvas and silk (batik), basket making and weaving, jewelry, and other mediums. The Choiseul Quarter is known as the home to many of the island’s top artists and craftspeople, although artists can be found working all over the island.

Here we’ll be assembling the work of different island artists so that you can see what is being produced on the island. You’ll also be exposed to some of the techques used by the various artists and learn how they are closely linked to many of the island’s rich cultural traditions. For example, much of the clay work and pottery produced has its origins in the craft of creating cookware (coal pots) that are still in wide use today.
