The Shrine of St. Martin of Tours

Founded in 1853 under Bishop Martin John Spalding to meet the needs of the growing German immigrant community, Saint Martin of Tours Catholic Church is one of the oldest churches in Louisville. It is a home to a beautiful, historic pipe organ and also serves as the shrine of two early Christian martyrs, St.s Magnus & Bonosa, martyred in about 207 A.D. They were given to Saint Martin's in 1901 and were laid to rest in our side altars in 1902. The parish's thriving music program was established under Father Vernon Robertson in the 1970's, and in 1993 his successor Father Dennis Cousens founded the Perpetual Adoration Chapel, leading to the adoption of our Parish Mission Statement: Our Doors Never Close. On May 18, 2023, Saint Martin of Tours Catholic Church was named a shrine by Archbishop Shelton Fabre. We are open 24/7, and we always have a security guard on duty.
