Sophistifunk's Raw Old School

Focusing on the music and the history of New York's mobile DJ scene, primarily in Brooklyn, from the mid to late 1970's. This vibrant and creative period gave rise to what later became Rap and Hip-Hop and is enjoying renewed interest by scholars, music historians, the people who lived it and those that just like great funky music. Note: see "Founding Fathers" by Sonny Hassan Pore for a great documentary of the period. I was there, working and living and playing with Grandmaster Flowers (Jonathan Cameron Flowers) for over 4 years. He was my friend and brother and may his musical genius be recognized and live on.
