Sophia Theological Seminary & Sophia Farms

Sophia Theological Seminary & Sophia Farms is a community of inclusion, of freedom, of safety, of belonging. At Sophia, we are living, learning, and working in harmony with creation and with one another. 

Sophia, in Greek, means “wisdom,” and the seed of Sophia has grown from a recognition that theological education requires a wise and creative re-imagining. How do we meet today’s challenges of financial, structural, and environmental sustainability?

Sophia’s re-imagining of sustainability is a present-day renewal of a centuries-old practice: religious communities self-supported through small-scale industry. For Sophia Seminary that supporting industry is Sophia Farms, a small-scale, intensive agricultural enterprise in which students and faculty co-labor in the field so students may attend seminary without tuition and housing expenses. Sophia's operating income is primarily via our Community Supported Agriculture program, Sophia's Pantry CSA.
